Social Experiment Bus Shelter
Houston Metro: We give you free Metro passes and a nice certificate, and you get to keep up with the off-cycle trash clean-up of the shelter. Me: Wow, so I can do anything I want to it? I can decorate it and have art openings?? Metro Bus people: total silence, slight sound of regret in the background.

no postie in so longie
I got my fingers in lots of pies lately. Besides the fruit-stained fingers, I have been neglecting my bus shelter. Aside from driving by to make sure it's not too dirty, it is spartan and naked. No special decorations, no art openings. Not even free bus pass giveaways.
Alas, my craft class ends tonight. That is one free finger that can be reinserted into...aw, nevermind. Finger insertion is too much to deal with before 11am on a Thursday.
The point is: Things'll change soon. promise.

Metro Welcome packet finally arrives
Metro finally delivered my welcome packet this afternoon.
It came with a framed certificate and some bus passes! They feel and smell like Cracker Jack prizes (recycled paper mixed with the smell of popcorn. As a child, that soon became the imprinted smell of anticipation and excitement) .
But no plastic bags for trash, which was kind of the most important thing. So as soon as I get my back to stop hurting, I'm gonna go out there and check on the trash situation at my stop. I'll take my bus passes with me to see if anyone there needs one.
Which brings me to the one item I'll need most of all now:
Am I afraid of contracting Hep C from a used needle lying on the floor? hell yes.

This shelter is my little controllable universe
Houston Metro bus stop, corner of Heights and 11th St.
I'm adopting a Metro Bus Shelter. This will serve as my own private little universe to perform my social experiments.
Here are the ideas I have in mind:
- Decorate the shelter for holidays and seasons
- free umbrellas with instuctions to do something nice for someone else.
- Throw parties
- free bus passes monthly
- Bus shelter art openings!!
- Guest lecture series
- holiday happenings: Valentine's day cards & easter eggs for kids.
Also, the Romero family motto has been changed from "behold the power of cheese," to "Create your own reality." This motto will be posted on the trashcan you see there on the left.
